Us

The conceptual design of the sculpture titled Us (هم) is rooted in the themes of separation and reunion referring the transformative journey of migration. This piece draws inspiration from the Farsi and Urdu word for "refugee" (مھاجر), which is conceptually deconstructed into its individual letters (م، ھ، ا، ج، ر). From this deconstruction, the first two letters are selected to design a new form.
The sculpture embodies the experiences of migrant communities as they embrace new culture, adapt to different ways of life, and forge new identities within their new settings.
Throughout this journey, these individuals bring with them a rich tapestry of knowledge, memories, and cultural aesthetics, all of which contribute to shaping their new selves. The sculpture reflects the process of cultural fusion, illustrating how the encounter between diverse traditions creates new forms of identity that blend the past with the present.

This new form spells the word, Us (هم) referring that we are all migrant of some kind. Through this piece, the narrative of migration transforms into one of collective identity and belonging, portraying how these communities contribute to a multicultural society that celebrates both individual heritage and shared humanity.
